Brandon is a small town in the English county of Suffolk, with an esimated population of just over 8,500. Brandon has a small market every Thursday and Saturday, in addition to the many small shops in the town. There are also a number of national businesses in Brandon, including Tesco, Aldi, Boots and The Original Factory Shop.
Brandon in Suffolk now shares its name with towns in Lincolnshire, Durham and Warwickshire. According to the Eilert Ekwall in the Oxford Dictionary of English Place Names, the origin of the name is "Brandon, usually 'hill where broom grows'".
Surrounded by acres of forest, Brandon has a fascinating history that dates back hundreds of years, a time when Brandon was known as Brandon Ferry and the High Street was Ferry Street. You can read much more on the history of Brandon on our Brandon brief history page.
Breckland Free School Gets Official Go Ahead
Breckland Free School, now to be called IES Breckland, has been given the official go-ahead to open September 2012. The full application was approved by Lord Hill on Tuesday 24th January.
Brandon is located in the Breckland area of East Anglia on the border of Suffolk and Norfolk. It is close to the major town of Ipswich and city of Norwich, Brandon is easily accessible by bus and train. The Google™ map below shows the location of Brandon, Suffolk.
