Polish exhibition enjoyed by residents

Scores of local residents have visited a local Polish exhibition over the last two weekends which has been put on by Brandon Heritage Centre for the month of September.

The penultimate temporary display for 2018 began on Saturday 1st September and runs every weekend during the month from 10am until 4pm.

This exhibition focuses on the 2nd Polish Corps and the settlement of the families in Brandon and Weeting at the end of WWII.

The display in the newly formed Harvey Adam temporary exhibition room has proven to be a big hit so far. The centre saw a small increase in numbers on the first weekend but these more than doubled for the weekend just gone which coincided with an event on Market Hill.

A Polish film crew from Bury St Edmunds visited last weekend and the film will be available on the Heritage Centre website shortly.

The display of the 2nd Corps, presented by Victor Lukaniuk with additional exhibits from Wieslaw Pianko, Edek Chwarszcznski and Kazimierz Swierdzewski, has now been added to by the Palik and Skikunas families.

The centre has also been given a months loan of a model Spitfire hand crafted by a young local Polish man, Jerzyk Strzalka, in his forge. This exhibit is quite outstanding and centre manager, Jenny Brocklehurst said "we have been very lucky in acquiring all the exhibits and with the release of the film 303 Squadron the plane caps it. "

Victor has also rather casually dropped into conversation that the centre may yet have one or two special visitors. Brandon Heritage Centre can't rule out a visit from the Polish Embassy and hoping to welcome a Polish TV crew.

There are now just two more weekends of the regular season left to visit the Heritage Centre but, with the 2018 Armistice coming up, there will be a special fortnight of events and displays. Keep an eye on the Brandon Heritage Centre website or here on
