Region's crews tackle forest fire

Crews from across the region have been battling a forest fire just outside Brandon this afternoon.

Appliances from Brandon, Thetford, Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Fakenham, Methwold, Attleborough and East Harling were mobilised to the incident which started just before 12.30pm.

Upon arrival they found approximately 3000sq meters of undergrowth well alight.

Crews used multiple hose-reel jets and beaters to extinguish the fire while being supplemented by the water carriers from Newmarket and Fakenham.

A spokesman for Brandon Fire Station said "This is believed to have been started by an abandoned campfire.

"The incident has now been scaled down but some crews are still on scene damping down and hotspotting."
