Speeding Removed From Brandon SNT List Of Priorities

Police

Published: Friday 12th March 2010 12:15

Following the recent public meeting held on 10th March, it has been decided to remove the Speeding in Brandon Priority.

Members of the Brandon public made this decision at the meeting based on the following information.

Officers from the SNT and the Roads Policing Unit have conducted numerous speed checks on London, Thetford, Green, Rattlers Road and the High Street. Enforcement has included informal warnings and traffic tickets.

The County Council has conducted Speed Detection Radar operations on these roads. The statistics from this show that in Brandon there is a 'good compliance with the speed limit.' As such, there is no justification for altering speed limits or introducing other measures such as extra speed cameras or speed bumps etc.

Members of the public were offered a Community Speed Watch scheme, which has been declined.

The Speeding Priority was set up to look for long-term solutions to the issue of speeding in Brandon with the Police working with other Government Agencies and the Community.

Following the work over the past few months it has been concluded that this issue will remain one of enforcement and therefore form part of the daily business of the Police.

Brandon SNT recognise that the majority of people drive in a responsible manner. However, speeding is still an issue on the roads of Brandon.

Therefore, although this has been removed as a priority, the SNT (along with the Roads Policing Unit) will continue to conduct speed checks on a regular basis.
