Two men arrested after food bank theft

Two men have been arrested in connection with a burglary at the Church Institute in Brandon that took place at the end of March.

Michael McCulloch, aged 46 of London Road in Brandon, was arrested on 6th April 2021 and was subsequently charged with two burglary offences.

Items stolen from the Church Institute were a safe containing cash of around £300 along with £70 of vouchers and groceries from the food bank.

The incident was captured on CCTV and, following enquiries, a man matching the appearance of the suspect was identified as the suspect of an attempted burglary at Martin’s Furnishers on the High Street in Mildenhall on Friday 2nd April

McCulloch appeared before Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday, Wednesday 7th April, where he pleaded guilty to one count of burglary and one count of attempted burglary.

He was sentenced to 32 weeks imprisonment and ordered to pay £375 in compensation.

A second suspect, a man in his 40s, was also arrested by police in connection with the Brandon burglary and has been released under investigation whilst enquires continue.
