Police given more time to question murder suspect

Brandon Country Park remains cordoned off by police

Detectives investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in Brandon have been granted more time to question a man arrested in connection with the incident.

Officers were called by the ambulance service shortly before 7am yesterday, Friday 9th April, following reports that a body of a woman had been found in the water at Brandon Country Park.

At approximately 12.15pm yesterday, a 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and he was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

An application was made for a warrant of further detention at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court this afternoon, Saturday 10th April, where detectives were granted an additional 36 hours to question the suspect.

A large area of Brandon Country Park remains cordoned off by police, pending ongoing enquiries in this area.

The investigation is still in its early stages but detectives suspect that the parties involved are known to each other, with no wider threat to the community.

Additional patrols will be taking place in the area over the coming days in a bid to offer reassurance.

Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses, particularly anyone who was in the area of Brandon country park, Bury Road or surrounding streets, who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, to make contact with them.

Any residents in the local area with a doorbell camera or private CCTV are also asked to review their footage, as well as anyone with motion activated dash-cam footage.
