Crews tackle two forest fires on outskirts of town

Crews from across the area have been called to tackle two separate forest fires on the outskirts of Brandon.

Appliances from Brandon, Newmarket, Woodbridge, Methwold and Cambridge were first mobilised at 12.55pm to an incident involving approximately 500 by 200 metres of alight foliage just off the A1065 near The Lodge.

Crews were met with a large area well alight and used beaters to slow the spread due to difficult access for hoses.

Once the hoses had been set up firefighters worked to extinguish the fire with a drone has been mobilised to provide air support.

At 1.36pm further appliances from Thetford, Soham, Burwell and Leiston were sent to another fire off the A1065 near North Court.

Crews divided the area and worked to extinguish the fire.

A stop to the incident near North Court was called at 3.13pm.

A stop to the incident near The Lodge was called at 4.24pm.
