Fire crews from across two counties called to factory blaze

Fire crews from across Norfolk and Suffolk have been tackling a factory blaze on Fengate Drove just outside Brandon.

A 999 call alerted the fire service to the incident at 1.56pm today, Wednesday 13th July.

The blaze is believed have started close to a recycling centre where large amounts of Celotex insulation board are being stored before spreading to other units nearby.

Firefighters were able to prevent the blaze spreading to The Harvest Centre which is located nearby.

Smoke had been reported being seen from as far away as Bury St Edmunds with several explosions being heard in the local area shortly after the fire began.

Multiple appliances were called to the fire from stations in Brandon, Thetford, Swaffham, Watton, Wymondham, Fakenham, Hetherset, Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds, Elmswell, Ixworth, Mildenhall and Newmarket.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service advised local residents to keep their windows and doors closed until further notice.

At around 7.30pm they confirmed the fire was now under control and they were scaling back, however some crews will remain on scene for some time.
