Crews tackle forest and undergrowth fire in Santon Downham

Multiple crews were called to tackle forest and undergrowth fire in Santon Downham earlier today, Saturday 10th May.

Firefighters were alerted to the incident at 2.41pm in the forest close to Marks Lane in the village.

A spokesperson for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service confirmed just after 4pm that an area of approximately 60,000 square metres was well alight.

Appliances from Brandon, Bury St Edmunds, Ixworth, Stowmarket, Wickhambrook and Mildenhall attended the blaze along with a water bowser from Newmarket.

Crews used hose reel jets and main jets to bring the blaze under control and extinguish the fire.

A stop message, meaning the incident was under control and no further resources are needed, was called at 5.18pm.

All firefighters had left the scene by 9.30pm.
