A woman who was found deceased at Brandon Country Park is being named by police as detectives are granted additional time to question a man arrested in connection with the incident.
Officers were called by the ambulance service shortly before 7am on Friday 9th April following reports that the body of a woman had been found in the water at the park.
Subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings, the deceased has been identified as Egle Vengaliene, aged 35, of Bury Road in Brandon.
Specialist trained officers are supporting Egle’s family through this extremely difficult time. An initial Home Office post-mortem examination was conducted yesterday, Saturday 10th April, and additional tests are required.
Officers are keen to hear from anybody who knew Egle whom have not yet been in contact with police, or from anyone with a recent sighting of her prior to 7am on Friday morning.
A 46 year old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday afternoon and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre, continues to be questioned by police.
Detectives have now made another application to Ipswich Magistrates’ Court for an additional warrant of further detention, which was granted this evening, Sunday 11th April, and allows them another 24 hours to question the suspect.
Officers are continuing to treat this as an isolated incident and as such do not believe there is any threat to the wider community, but additional patrols will be taking place in the area over the coming days in a bid to offer reassurance to local residents.
A large area of Brandon Country Park remains cordoned off by police as various searches and other enquiries are ongoing.
Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses, particularly anyone who was in the area of Brandon Country Park, Bury Road or the surrounding streets, and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to make contact with them.
Any residents in the local area with a doorbell camera or private CCTV are also asked to review their footage, as well as anyone with motion activated dash-cam footage.
