Green fingered volunteers from Brandon have been rewarded for their efforts throughout the town with a nomination for Britain in Bloom.
Brandon in Bloom saw huge success at the Anglia in Bloom awards in 2019, the last ceremony held in the region after the 2020 was cancelled due the ongoing pandemic.
The pandemic also means that this year’s Britain in Bloom awards will be slightly different this year with the entire programme being entirely digital.
The 2021 RHS Awards consists of five categories, each chosen because they reflect the activities many groups have been doing in the last 12 months, and because they have enduring relevance beyond the pandemic. Each participating group can enter a maximum of three of these categories.
Groups will be asked to submit evidence of their work in written form, photos or short videos.
Rachel Sobiechowski, Brandon in Bloom’s head of horticulture, said: “It is an honour to represent the Anglia in region in the prestigious Britain in Bloom awards.
“I’m very much looking forward to the new challenge and the opportunities ahead for Brandon. “
Gary Brocklehurst, the group’s chairman, added: “Not only do I see this as recognition for the Bloomers, it is everyone in Brandon that has litter picked and planted bulbs or sunflowers, the traders decorating shop fronts and all those that have helped with the High Street flags along with our town keepers who keep the cemetery so tidy.
“Lets hope this is the continuation of our wonderful community spirit and can be used to bring together the many groups, traders and individuals that show such support for our town.”
